Six places that capture what makes St. Louis distinctly itself — from the Anheuser-Busch brewery to the Soulard Farmers Market to that frozen custard line at Ted Drewes that wraps around the block.

Founded in the 1850s as a small neighborhood brewery, Anheuser-Busch quickly transformed from a local fixture into a national presence. Today, it serves as a hub for brewing innovation, using the highest-quality ingredients grown by American farmers to produce umpteen brands of beer. St. Louis is home to the titan’s flagship brewery, which operates out of elaborate, red-brick buildings. Hop on a tour for a glimpse inside them. Spring (April–May) and fall (September–October) are the sweet spots — comfortable temps, leaves on the trees, and the calendar is packed with festivals. Summer brings Cardinals games, fireworks, and outdoor concerts. Winter is quieter but the holiday lights at the Botanical Garden are a draw.
Downtown, Midtown, and the Central West End are walkable. MetroLink (the light rail) connects the airport, downtown, the stadiums, and Forest Park. Beyond those corridors a car or rideshare makes life easier — most attractions outside the city center don’t have direct transit.
Downtown puts you walking distance from the Arch, Busch Stadium, and Union Station. The Central West End is closer to Forest Park, the Cathedral Basilica, and BJC Hospital. Clayton is the upscale business hub a short MetroLink ride away. Soulard and the Grove are best for nightlife.
Show up two hours early. Pre-game options range from rooftop bars in Ballpark Village (right next to Busch Stadium) to old-school sports bars across the highway. Bring sunscreen for day games — the upper deck has no shade. After the game, the team store and Live! at Ballpark Village stay open late.
Garages near Busch Stadium and the Arch run $20–$40 on event days, $5–$15 otherwise. Street meters work most days but enforcement is tight. If you’re seeing a Cardinals game or a Muny show, plan to park once and walk between attractions.
